Project Forum UpdateThe UCI UCPath project team presented at an update forum on Wednesday, March 6 at the Student Center on campus. Project partners, stakeholders and workgroup members were invited to hear the latest project updates and information related to the deployment schedule and the different workstreams.
Approximately 200 staff in the audience had the opportunity to ask questions to the project team. The presentation deck and questions and answers from the forum are posted in ZotPortal, under Work/Life. For more information, go to ZotPortal, UCPath Resources.

Measuring Success with MetricsSteve Noh is a project manager from OIT’s Project Management Office assigned to support the UCPath project. He was originally tapped in 2017 to provide project management support for the Tier-1 and Tier-n workstreams. Over the course of the project, he has taken on added responsibilities with Integration Testing to support planning, execution, metric reporting and defect management for Integration Testing efforts. Steve also provides PM support for old and new initiatives as needed including Security Access Management System (SAMS) decommission and Process Life Cycle workshops.
His career in Information Technology spans nearly 20 years across a variety of industries including mortgage and retail banking, automotive marketing, automotive manufacturing, IT consulting and higher education where he was involved from custom software development projects to large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementations. Steve has primarily been involved with highly visible and critical projects for the campus during his career at UCI with positive results.
Steve is a UCI graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. He is a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and continually hones his skill set through a variety of learning opportunities and a diverse portfolio of projects.
Outside of work, Steve’s current focus is helping prepare his three kids to navigate high school and college prep activities. He enjoys spending free time with his wife and close friends...talking about their kids.
UCPath Brings New Functionality
Beginning with the launch of UCPath later this year, campus financial managers and analysts will be able to drill-down into detailed payroll data from related KFS e-documents and reports. The new drill downs will appear as hyperlinks in KFS and will lead directly into detail data in UCPath DOPE reports.
This powerful new functionality was one of UCI’s most often requested reporting enhancements and teams from Accounting & Fiscal Services, the Budget Office, OIT, Business Intelligence and UCPath put three years of hard work into delivering a unified, comprehensive financial reporting solution that supports full drill-down and drill-across functionality for all sources of financial data. The achievement of this major milestone will also make it much easier to reconcile payroll data with KFS.
Many projects contributed to this success, starting in 2016 with the rebuild of the KFS labor ledger to UCPath specifications and the construction of the UCPath Data Store (ODS). Some, but not all, of the predecessor projects were:
- KFS upgrade
- KFS Organizational Hierarchy reorganization and synchronization with UCPath departments
- Adoption of the Common Data Mart (CDM) model for unified reporting
- Cognos upgrade
- SQL Server database upgrade
With the deferral of the UCPath project, we are further developing our readiness and have created a team to expand the plans for how support will be delivered once we are live on UCPath in January 2020. The goal is to create a process that provides employees with an easy way to get answers to their questions about paychecks, how to make changes in UCPath, as well as help for those who are inputting transactions into UCPath.
The team includes representatives from the Chief Personnel Officers, Human Resources, Payroll, Academic Personnel, Medical Center, Health Sciences and the UCPath project team.
Current activities include understanding what services will be needed by UCI, designing a tool to capture and route questions to the appropriate people to answer and determining the process for escalation to the UCPath Center.
One of the features of this process will be the designation of Points of Contact (POC) within each division. The POC will be the first contact for employees with a question about their paycheck or how to make changes in UCPath. These people have been identified and will begin to participate in UCPath training in April.
Watch for future updates on the support model and POCs as they are further defined and solidified.
Tony Toyofuku, lead integration developer, shared the code package and documentation for our real-time UCPath integration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Jip Muongpruan, Tier-1 lead, provided an overview of Tier-1 support and Managed File Transfer (MFT) to UC Hastings.
Over the past years, the UCI team has worked hard to develop and test these integration solutions and we are happy to be able to share them with other Deployment 1 and Deployment 2 locations.
We believe these tools will allow other locations to leverage UCI’s efforts and accelerate their UCPath implementation. These sharing efforts will also help create future opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
